    Manual vs. automatic is a matter of preference. For me, it depends on the specific year and model, and engine. In the 1940s and 1950s manuals were preferable in more situations than today, mainly because engines are generally much more powerful, and automatic transmissions have gotten so much more efficient than they used to be.
