A resource for runners who like to suffer.
Planning on hosting a few ad-hoc training events in Leadville this summer. Using my house there as a basecamp and then doing some longer-ish runs were we can setup carpools and such. Mostly thinking July at this point, because I will be focused on Western States in June. Then doing a few final events in August like our annual night run.
Who's interested?
What types of training events would you be interested in? Long/short? Specific course sections? Hanging with other newbies, prior finishers, studs?

Permalink Reply by Jeff Driscoll on May 7, 2012 at 8:40pm Hi all, I just joined the site and am training to run Leadville this August. I'm definitely interested in joining a group for some training runs in the coming months. Is anyone going later this month (Saturday the 19th) or is it too early in the year? I haven't been on any part of the course before and would like to see it all at least a time or two before August.

Permalink Reply by Stos on May 9, 2012 at 6:37am I will be in town starting June 3rd or so, and then until the race. It is definitely not too early for anything, but I will be running different parts of the course throughout the year, and will probably be trying to pull together some small group runs. If you look at the post above this one, it looks like Dan would probably be down to run with us.

Between now and July I am really booked. Quadrock 50, DirtyThirty 50K, Mount Evans, and then the training camp. I will be focusing on July. I am also a teacher, so my training schedule is wide open. Let me rephrase that, I am a father and a husband . . . And want to keep it that way, so it is not completely wide open . . .
May We Always Be Crazy!!!

Permalink Reply by Alex Ross on May 10, 2012 at 7:31am Silver Rush 50 was my first ultra last year and you'll have a great time! The volunteers and all the crews are pretty amazing. My suggestion is do hill training and get really good at power hiking :)

Permalink Reply by Jeff Driscoll on May 21, 2012 at 8:53pm Is anyone up for a training run on part of the 100 course this Friday, 25 May? I haven't been on any part of the course before so I'm looking forward to starting to check it out. I would be driving up from Colorado Springs but could be there at almost any time. Let me know if you are interested.

Permalink Reply by Stos on May 22, 2012 at 6:02am Hey everyone. Just got everything lined up for this Summer over the weekend. I have rented a house in Leadville for the Summer. I will be in town starting June 3rd - August 20th. I'll be ready to run the course just about any day starting then.
Permalink Reply by Jeff Driscoll on May 22, 2012 at 6:39pm Nicholas,
Yes, I'd like to go up in the morning and come back mid-afternoon. I'd be up for just about any distance depending on the course section (5, 10, 20 miles; i've never run at that altitude either so I'm curious how that will go). I have about 6 weekends available to check out the course between now on 18 August and would like to see it all between now and then. My first thoughts were to do the Hope pass section or Sugarloaf section. Let me know if you are interested.

I can't make it tomorrow but I'm definitely interested in carpooling up to Leadville to train (I'm in the Springs also). Let me know whenever you plan on going up.
