Given the Leadville Marathon is in 2 weeks, I thought I would head up Mosquito Pass for a look. Forecast? Snow.
We went up 2.5 miles from the aid station at the mine. Virtually no dirt. All snow. It is packed down if you stay on the center from the snowmobiles. However, if you step off, you are instantly thigh deep. Will it melt out in 2 weeks? Unlikely given it isn’t terribly hot up here yet.
That photo is from the first turn after you cross the culvert pipe. That’s the start of the snow. Never ends from there.
